Lake Humane Society seizes 100 cats from Madison Township cat rescue: Volunteers respond
MADISON, Ohio (WJW) – New particulars are rising about a raid by humane officers on an animal rescue shelter in Lake County.
A whole of 145 cats were taken off from the shelter, dependent on what investigators contact poor treatment of the animals and unsanitary problems.
But volunteers who run the Holy Cat Whiskers Rescue Shelter in Madison believe that there are two sides to the story. They say their mission is to rescue stray and abandoned cats and present care for all those that are sick or wounded, and then get them all set for adoption.
“We are about the only types all-around here that definitely do that and it is quite expensive. Our vet costs last year have been $21,171 and we fundamentally do what folks do not want to do,” Executive Director Leslie Lawrence advised FOX 8.
Lawrence says the pandemic produced a dire problem for quite a few cats with overall health problems.
“People are dumping and all the shelters are just overwhelmed and a large amount of these animals have issues, hyperthyroidism, most cancers and we get calls on them and we see if we can aid them,” Lawrence claimed.
But investigators with the Lake Humane Society say they obtained complaints about unsanitary and inhumane ailments inside Holy Cat Whiskers Rescue.
Armed with a research warrant, the humane society taken out the 145 cats from the shelter on March 8.
Among the allegations built by the humane culture, that some of the cats in the shelter were ill and were being not getting properly quarantined, and all those that required medical interest, were being not obtaining correct veterinary care.
