Manatee County poised to reverse course on retail pet sales ban

Faced with a lawsuit by two regional Petland suppliers, Manatee County’s most recent board associates appear poised to reverse a new ban on the retail sale of cats and canine.

Commissioners authorized the ban on retail cat and canine sales in August 2021, adhering to yrs of advocacy by neighborhood pet lovers worried about the retail sale of canine and cats lifted in so-named “dog mills.”

The ordinance was accredited by a slim four to 3 vote, and three of people commissioners shed their re-election bids in November, leaving only at-large commissioner George Kruse, the swing vote on the matter, left on the dais to protect the effort and hard work.
