SALT LAKE Metropolis — It was that time of the week and Sadie understood it.
“Oh my gosh. She waits by the doorway each individual Saturday and Sunday early morning,” explained Sadie’s operator, Kate Deschamps.
There is no question Sadie knows weekends are all about likely to the pet dog park.
“She is so sensible,” Deschamps claimed. “She understands the generate right here, and she’s like, okay, I know where by we’re likely.”
What Sadie did not know was that she would have to keep on-leash at her favored off-leash Salt Lake City puppy park. It is all simply because of a different animal also browsing the park.
“The elk are significant, large animals and all canine instinctively want to chase them,” Deschamps claimed.
Salt Lake Metropolis park rangers were being chaotic placing up signs and speaking to pet dog house owners Saturday morning, letting them know Parley’s Historic Nature Park, also known as Tanner Park, is now temporarily on-leash only.
“We are not right here to compose tickets or nearly anything. We are just below to educate people today to keep pet dogs harmless and maintain the elk safe and sound,” claimed Salt Lake Town Park Ranger Nahuel Tulian to a doggy owner at the trailhead.

With so much snow in the mountains around the park, an elk herd has been generating its way down hunting for food for the past month. That herd has induced some traffic difficulties on Interstate 215 and Interstate 80 near Parley’s Canyon.
With Tanner Park near by, the herd has also built its way into the park.
“We’ve acquired tons of canine out in this article, and so there can be detrimental interactions with elk. We have had that occur in the earlier couple of months,” Tulian defined.
Salt Lake Town Mayor Erin Mendenhall issued the short-term on-leash order this 7 days to keep pet dogs from chasing them, both triggering the elk to operate back again to the interstate, or quite possibly injuring the pet or men and women.
The buy could very last until the conclude of April, based on how prolonged the herd stays at the park. If the snow in the mountains melts to the issue elk could greater locate food, there is a probability they will leave the park before.
It is not what Sadie wanted to hear.
“I know she chases deer, so I feel it’s just a more substantial deer to her,” Deschamps claimed.
Even even now, Sadie possibly figures a weekend on-leash stroll is even now much better than no stroll.
“Oh yeah. We will even now arrive and consider a stroll,” Deschamps expressed. “This is her thing.”
